Moving Right Along!

The lounge is ready for cats and we are currently working with some local shelters and rescues, identifying kitties that will be good candidates for the lounge’s communal living environment. We were hoping to open in May – and we may still be able to! – but it all depends on having kitties who are comfortable and ready for visitors. We’re currently exploring the possibility of having limited hours and fewer visitors at a time if we aren’t at the capacity of kitties we’re hoping for. So we are looking at more of a “soft” opening until we can have a more “grand” opening. The mission has always been to help rescued cats and kittens find safe, loving, permanent homes, and we are definitely getting closer to being to do that with the lounge!

Pandora and her four kittens are still in foster with us. Pandora will be spayed on Monday and then go home to her furever home. She is a delightful, loving, playful cat and we’re so glad that she will have a loving home. Olive, Filo, Fig, and Honey are also already spoken for and will be getting spayed/neutered and then going home the first week of June. They are growing and developing perfectly and couldn’t be more fun! We will miss having that kitten energy around. We’ve been fostering basically nonstop since just before the covid shutdowns began in March of 2020, and the house will seem much quieter once we say goodbye to these sweethearts.

There is a video showing off the lounge on Facebook. We’ve made a few changes since then including a screen door between the lobby and the lounge and a slipcover for the white sofa, among other things.

We had a very generous donation come in and are so appreciative of all the support we’ve had for our future kitties. If you would like to contribute anything, food and litter will always be great! You can make a financial donation too and it’s tax-deductible. Our Support page gives all the details.

Looking forward to welcoming visitors to the lounge just as soon as we can!

May Update

posted in: General Updates | 0

May is here! So much is happening and all of it is is good!

We have taken possession of the retail space at 1744 E. Main St, in Ventura. If you’re driving in midtown take a look and find where we are. We have started painting and will continue working on that through the weekend. We will also start assembling a lot of Ikea shelves plus some tables and chairs.

Since we started selling masks last summer we’ve sold over 640 of them! That is remarkable. We will continue to sell masks, pouches, cat toys, jewelry, stickers, and such in the lounge in our lobby area. We will also be exploring consignment, wholesale purchasing, and other partnerships.

We have relationships in place for working with other shelters and rescues in the area to identify cats to bring over to the lounge.

There are still things we would love to have donated! We will always need food and litter. We do not have any wand-type toys for the cats yet so some of those would be terrific. You can see all of our wishlists here:

We anticipate a bit of a soft opening in May before we go full-speed ahead in June. Once we have things running smoothly we will share more about volunteer opportunities!

We are SO excited to be so close to opening and can’t wait to welcome everybody to the lounge! =^..^=

If you missed our sneak peek on Instagram you can see it HERE.

Grand Opening “Cat Shower”

If we can have wedding showers and baby showers, why not CAT showers? We’ve put together a registry and updated our Chewy and Amazon wishlists so everyone can celebrate the opening of the lounge and help spoil our future kitties! There is a lot to choose from at a variety of prices, and we hope that everyone who wants to will find something they are happy to donate.

  • Toys, cat trees, and more fun stuff HERE
  • Chewy.com wishlist HERE
  • Amazon wishlist HERE

If you have something in good/great condition that you see on these lists that you would like to donate just let us know. We’d be happy to take a look! We’re always going to need food and litter and prefer higher quality food whenever possible.

Other donations we’re looking for include:

  • Plastic folding chairs for the lobby, extra seating outside, special events – preferably white
  • Storage shelving for supplies (sturdy)
  • Stainless steel utility table (or other table for food prep, etc.)
  • Shark steam cleaner
  • Blank paper

Thank you for helping us get off to a great start!

Things to Consider When Adopting

posted in: Adoptions, Education | 0

We want all of our cats and kittens to go to safe, loving, forever homes. Adopting a cat or kitten is a lifetime commitment, and indoor cats can live up to 20 years! Adoption should not be an impulsive decision. You’re adding a family member to your home who will require not just food and litter but also regular vet visits and probably medical care at some point as well. It is not a decision to make lightly! Cats are living, feeling beings and are not “things” to be discarded when they no longer fit into a lifestyle.

Some questions to ask yourself:

*If you’re renting, will you make sure you always seek out cat-friendly places if you have to move?

*If you’re a student, do you have a plan for your cat(s) when you go on vacation or find yourself moving often?

*If your household has never had a cat, do you know if anyone has allergies?

*Are you prepared to change their diet if required to support their medical needs?

*If you’re planning on starting a family, have you done some reading to learn how to appropriately introduce cats and babies and how to help toddlers learn to treat cats gently?

*If you’re elderly (and even if you’re not), do you have a plan in place for where your cat(s) will go in the event you can no longer care for them?

*If you have another cat or kitten at home (or a dog) have you read about properly (and slowly!) introducing a new cat or kitten?

*Have you read about the benefits of keeping cats indoors, and how to keep them happy and stimulated?

*Have you read about why declawing is barbaric?

There is quite a lot to think about and we want to be sure that every cat and kitten we adopt out finds the purrfect home for the rest of their lives!

We’ve Signed a Lease!

We are very excited to announce that we have signed a lease for our lounge and adoption center! As soon as we have the business license and insurance squared away we will announce the exact location. We can hardly wait!

In the meantime we’re giving the website a facelift, getting the reservation system in place, putting wish lists together for donations, creating a volunteer sign-up system, and so much more.

Want to help? Let all of your cat-loving friends know about us and encourage them to follow us on Facebook or Instagram and sign up for our newsletter. And stay tuned for donations we could use to get off to a strong start.
